The Taj Mahal is closed to general visitors on Fridays, so this tour should be planned for another day.
After a break for lunch in Agra, continue to Agra Fort. Behind its imposing red-sandstone walls are courtyards, audience halls and royal apartments associated with the Mughal emperors. The fort requires a little more walking than many visitors expect, but its scale and views towards the Taj make it a worthwhile second visit.
If timings allow, the afternoon can include Mehtab Bagh, across the Yamuna, for a quieter view back towards the Taj Mahal. Alternatively, choose Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, an intimate marble monument often appreciated by travellers interested in the evolution of Mughal architecture. Rather than trying to add every sight in Agra, this itinerary leaves a sensible buffer for the drive back to Delhi.
